Top 5 Things to Wear for Sailing in Croatia

Hats – Hats are essential and you will want a few options. Make sure to bring a baseball cap so your face is covered while riding on the back of a moped to explore a small island like Vis. Straw sunhats are pretty but they will likely blow off so you won’t have too many occasions where you will be able to wear these sunhats. Well, maybe sometime in 2020 when the Four Seasons Residences finishes their location on Stari Grad, you can sail right into the marina and walk right onto the dock and have dinner and stay for a few days in the Four Season Residence, then you may want to bring a few straw hat options.

Sunglasses – Buy some $25 or less sunglasses from Freepeople for those days when you will be spending quite a bit of time kayaking or generally lounging in the water. Unless you are going right from the boat to the tender and to shore for dinner, it is probably best to keep the $200 pair of Max Mara sunglasses in your cabin that day.

Seasickness – We found the best tricks were to stare straight ahead and sit with the captain while sailing. Never go below deck while the boat is moving and chew on a piece of ginger. Other options include buying some seasickness dissolvable medicines and wearing a seaband at all times while on the boat. After a day or two you will usually get used to the boat. Even our most delicate passengers were fine after a day or two.

Wifi – Bring your own wifi router if possible. We found out that there could be some long days when sailing without wifi. There are only so many games of Scrabble and Gin Rummy you can play because no one wants to play anymore. Our router broke 2 days into our trip and we would burn through our $10 a day LTE plans on our phones. If we had a our router like Skyroam, I could have had Wifi for $9 a day for 5 people on the boat without any issues of not being in range for Verizon and worrying about getting the router fixed while in the middle of the ocean. Skyroam must have their own satellites or something because my friends love these little orange hockey puck looking things that also can charge your phones at the same time.
