I spent the weekend in San Francisco after years of just going to the Napa Valley and bypassing the city itself. When I went back to San Francisco this time around, I was no longer a single person, I went with my 4 year old daughter and San Francisco was quite a treat as far as a city goes for a mother and child combo. San Francisco is such a great walking city that my 4 year old explored with me from the comfort of her stroller. We walked to Lombard Street, Fisherman’s Wharf and everything in between.
We tried out BiRite Ice Cream in the Mission and I found my all time favorite ice cream flavor the Salted Caramel. We got in line for a cable car ride to Fisherman’s Wharf from Powell Street and my daughter got to sit on the best little beach in front of the Maritine Museum. The Academy of Sciences was filled with one of the greatest fish collections I have ever seen and The Ferry Building now hosts the Slanted Door Cafe which is booked solid for days on end.
On my last day in San Francisco, I ate lunch at Straits Restaurant located at 845 Market Street. It was a San Francisco Treat! The restaurant was written up in Food & Wine Magazine this month and featured the Atlanta location which is co – owned by rapper / celebrity / movie star Ludacris. The Straits restaurants were started by Chris Yeo and have grown to many locations throughout Northern California. Chris Yeo and Ludacris met at a charity event in 2007 and their mutual admiration for great food became a successful business partnership at Straits Atlanta.
At the Straits location in San Franciso, I had the beef watermelon salad, corn fritters, calamari, garlic noodles, pad thai, and a few other amazing dishes. All the dishes were carefully crafted and beautifully executed. I loved everything. I could see why Straits was given a 7 page spread in Food & Wine Magazine this month. This restaurant was worth the visit.
A Straits location is coming soon to Southern California. Lucky for me, it is going to be close by in Santa Monica. Look out for it coming soon!
