Joseph Domingo’s collection was provocative and whimsical. His male models sent the crowd into a frenzy. The women and men were swooning when the models walked the runway. Joseph played with many textures and textiles. The colors were rich and buttery. I loved his mens leather blazer and his beautiful coral one piece swimsuit for women.

In addition to his swimwear, the dresses made with plenty of texture got approval from the crowd. Joseph Domingo is definitely an artisan who has perfected his craft. His lovely play on color with textures made me think about planning my next vacation to Greece so I can wear everything. Ok, some of my friends in the audience were offended by the speedos, but it is fashion…

Here are some photos exclusively taken by me for Shopping and Info. Enjoy. Comments are welcome.

By the way, there were some actresses in the front row, but the room was super crowded and I did not want to miss the clothing. These were the confirmed attendees: Vanessa Simmons, Angela Simmons,Tichina Arnold, Cassardra Hepburn, Apollonia, Kym E. Whitely, Erica Hubbard, Nautica De la cruz, Wendy Davis, Lily Collins, Caryn Ward.

Staci Woo Fashion Designer Exclusive Interview by Shopping and Info

In anticipation for the Mercedes Benz Los Angeles Fashion Week 2008 Spring Collections, Shopping and Info has some exclusive interviews of prominent Los Angeles designers that are both showing and not showing this week at Fashion Week.

Today, our interview was with Staci Woo, designer of the super functional yet beautifully designed line WOO. Staci has been very busy with her new Woo Collection line in addition to her childrens line and her regular Woo line. Her line has been worn by celebrities such as Nicole Richie, Evangeline Lilly of Lost, and Lucy Liu.

Here is my interview with her: (See below for where to buy her fashions.)

1.) Where did you get your start in designing? I learned how to sew when I was really young…my mom would take me to the fabric store and I would pick out Butterick and Vogue patterns and fabric and sew at home on my Moms sewing machine. That sparked my interest in design…I loved it. I would make clothes for my barbies, and then my friends and eventually interned at a swimwear company when I was in college and launched a beachwear line and was able to channel my skills.
2.) Where did you work and go to design school? That was my first job in design, for California Proline. I stared working there while I was at school at UC Santa Barbara. When I finally left Santa Barbara I got my first job working for Ron Herman and Adriano Goldschmied at a denim company called A. Gold E. I never went to design school. I got into the job market so early and enjoyed it so much that I didn’t want to stop and go back to school after college.
3.) What is your daily inspiration? I am inspired by my travels and the people I’ve encountered along the way. There is inspiration to be found everywhere and does not necessarily have to do with style or the way people dress. I find inspiration in the way people live their lives and their lifestyles.
4.) Where do you shop? My favorite places to shop are at flea markets, furniture stores and office supply stores.
5.) Who are your celebrity inspirations when dressing your models? For casual everyday looks I am inspired by Cameron Diaz and Heidi Klum. They are innately stylish women without trying too hard.
6.) When did you know you wanted to design clothing? Kindergarten. I would draw clothing and models with crayons and newsprint paper. I’m not sure why I was inspired to do this at such a young age.
7.) What is the best part of your day? I am a morning person but I think I am most productive in the afternoon.
8.) What is the worse part of your day? I don’t have a bad part of the day, but if I had to; I would say at 4:30-5 when the sample sewer leaves…that means I won’t see the outcome of some of our new styles until the next day.
9.) What advice do you have for young aspiring designers? Persevere with confidence and be humble at the same time.
10.) IF I were to buy 2 pieces from your collection- which 2 pieces should I buy for Fall and which 2 pieces should I buy for Resort? For Fall, we have the most amazing african print Marlien dresses or Cataline skirt. Each print is limited in availability and gorgeous. For Holiday/Resort everyone should own the Stassia or Stella coat in fleece and pair it with an ikat cotton silk scarf. They dress up anything casual and you feel dressed even if you just rolled out of bed.
11.) What were your inspirations behind the Resort collection? Behind the Fall collection? I am inspired by simplicity and the pieces that are essential to have in your closet. I designed this season to have special pieces that you will love in wearable colors to merchandise with fabulous prints with pops of color.

Thanks for your time Staci. It was lovely to chat with you.
