Ever wonder how people who eat gluten free can enjoy noodles? If you love Vietnamese noodles you can pretty much go gluten free. One of my favorite places to go in Los Angeles is Nong LA on Sawtelle and they now have one on La Brea near The Grove. They serve everything with their rice noodles which are gluten free. The menu is simple and everything is delicious. If you like soup noodles order the beef Pho Tai, or chicken versions with their beef or chicken broth and their rice noodles. If you want a salad version order vegetarian or meat with their vermicelli rice noodles with salad. So many choices you can eat here healthily 5 days a week!
If you want to try this at home – try making these noodles with miracle noodles which are gluten free and high fiber.
The perfect day is finding out that Caruso’s Grove in Los Angeles now has a Laduree Restaurant from Paris. If you are looking for a great place for lunch or dinner on a weekend or just because – slip on your Chanel inspired boucle jacket and go get some macarons at Laduree. We happened upon the restaurant 2 days after Christmas and it was not busy for lunch. Turns out the crowds were too busy shopping the after Christmas sales to notice that Laduree was right there across the street from the AMC Theater and Nordstrom. Always having Paris on my mind, I made a beeline for the restaurant and sat there to have a light lunch before doing any shopping at The Grove. (Jacket – Shopbop)
We had Laduree’s traditional Marie Antoinette Tea with avocado toast and asparagus, hot chocolate, and their mini burgers with fries. For dessert we had macarons of course. The avocado toast served on a brioche and a poached egg on top was a perfect light lunch after a very festive Christmas season including a trip to Punta Mita. I was glad to have something light for lunch. My daughter had the 4 mini burgers and fries and she totally enjoyed them. The macarons were a small gluten free treat that were a perfect dessert to end our meal.
After lunch, we made our way to Topshop and saw the most amazing embroidered leather jacket. The jacket was the perfect combo of edgy and feminine at the same time with its delicate embroidery and steel spikes crafted perfectly all over the motorcycle style leather jacket. It’s still on my wishlist.
We did pick up some pom pom keychains and pom pom hats while at Topshop, and made our way to Barnes and Nobles to pick up some adult coloring books. Not sure if you have ever seen an adult coloring book, but they are pretty cool. Picture some of the most beautiful landscapes or artistic drawings that need to be colored in with colored pencils. If you are looking for a way to destress after the holidays, these coloring books may be an alternative to going for a run if it is too cold to go for a run. After that, we headed home in traffic.
We have all gotten onto the juicing bandwagon and have either had a Kreation, Pressed Juicery, Clover, or Juiced Served Here at least once or twice a week. At $8-$12 a juice it is not inexpensive and supposed to be a full meal. When you do a workout that is intense like a Platefit where you workout doing bootcamp exercises on a PowerPlate or a Body by Simone where you do cardio dance routines for 60 minutes straight, you need real protein sustenance when you are done. Although the calories should not be high in your post workout snacks, you still need some type of mini meal that is 250 calories that packs in protein, fats and carbs in one. Recently, I discovered Soupure and like the alternative to fruit juices. Fruit juice smoothies have a lot of sugar and seldom have protein. When you add a protein whey powder to your smoothie at one of the juiceries, it is not always the healthiest alternative to a post workout meal. Soupure offers chickpea soups and also cashew nut meat protein packed smoothies that can give you everything you need post workout. This is the fast food I really like.
El Nino in Los Angeles with Hunter Rain Boots – People in Los Angeles dislike the rain and as a transplant from the east coast I still cannot understand the massive hysteria that goes along with a little bit of rain. Sometimes I miss weather in Los Angeles. Having grown up with large amounts of rain weekly and snow in the winters, changes in weather were just a fact of life. Since we do need the rain in Los Angeles, everyone should just be prepared for the rain and see it as a gift from mother nature and take the opportunity to buy some new rain boots for the next few weeks ahead. My favorite rain boots for this kind of rain is of course the Hunter Wellington rubber boots because they are such a classic. They come in all sorts of pretty colors and can be worn with any outfit in the rain. They will keep you dry from the rain or snow and you will look stylish too if you buy it in a fun color like yellow, red, pink, or light blue. If you want the Angelina Jolie look from the Mr. and Mrs. Smith movie then buy the red Hunter Wellington Boots.
I found some pretty light pink Hunter Wellington boots here.
If you want the sky blue Hunter Wellington boots go here.
And if you are like our dog Lexi who doesn’t like the rain, curl up in a blanket on your bed and just stare out the window.
Baltaire Restaurant in Brentwood Los Angeles is one of the newest hip restaurant spots to hit the very tony area of Brentwood. I went there last night to celebrate and had a divine time. What they offer here is the proximity that all the Brentwood and Pacific Palisades residents crave to a neighborhood steakhouse restaurant that is also as chic as any that are offered in Beverly Hills or Malibu. As much as we all love the blue cheese olive giant double size martinis at Nobu Malibu, it is quite a trek to go out to Malibu on a regular basis if you are not going for a big celebration.
Baltaire is in the perfect location. It is just off the 405 – right near all the offices in Westwood and Brentwood and walking distance for all Brentwood residents who want to drop in on a weeknight for a quick Ricotta Gnuddi dinner with a glass of sancerre or on a Saturday night for a date night where you can easily Uber home for under $10. Here is what we ate last night – Ricotta Gnuddi, Wedge Salad, Bone in Ribeye steak, dirty martinis, lobster mac and cheese, and scallops. For dessert we cleansed our palate with a trio of sorbet. The bar and the skylights coupled with the open kitchen gave us all the entertainment we needed for the night. All the powerbrokers came for a bite and to negotiate their next 3 picture deal after Cannes and the local residents came in after a long day at the office.
And it is a great place to go and have a drink after a long day of shopping if you just hit the Nordstrom Half Yearly Sale.

Manny Ramirez may be out for 50 games, but Kim Kardashian threw out the first pitch at the Los Angeles Dodgers game last night. She looked beautiful as usual with large hoop earrings and a custom made Dodgers shirt. She mentioned on her twitter page that she was not sure whether to wear sneakers or glam up the top with heels.
