Recently I embarked on a personal journey to eat as clean as possible. That meant cutting out sugars, refined grains, and any processed foods. When people think about a task like this they think that it would be hard work. It actually has been a relatively easy transition since we as a family were relatively healthy to begin with. My feeling was if we want to stay healthy we needed to only eat whole foods and not processed foods. I started to read up on eating foods that were not made in a factory and learned about the best options for my family. One of my favorite finds during this whole food transformation was the discovery of the most delicious treat any person could ever encounter. I discovered the Cashew Milk and Almond Milk.
Cashew Milk and Almond Milk were unlike anything I ever tasted. When made fresh with some spices the milks tasted like milkshakes. They were thick and creamy and filling.
I modeled my homemade cashew milk from my favorite Blueprint Cleanse cashew milk. I have no idea the proportions of the ingredients they use, but I tested my version until I thought it was pretty close.
Here is my recipe:
3 cups of cashews raw
2 cups of water
1 tsp of cinnamon
4 pitted dates
1/2 tsp vanilla
Add all ingredients to your mixer or Vitamix and let it emulsify all your ingredients. Enjoy as your dessert or breakfast in a tall glass.
School is starting soon, but the camps are all ending before school starts. I never understood why the summer camps needed a break before school started when they would have the whole school year off, but that is the way it goes I suppose.
During these dog days of summer when your kids are out of camp and not yet back at school there are only so many trips to Target or to the grocery store you can drag your kids to before they start losing it in the produce aisle.
Nail colors are such a huge phenomenon these days that little girls are also getting into the nail color trends. Gone are the days of the red lacquer polish or the French manicure, girls today want to get dark burgundy nails, blue nails, black nails or multi colored neon nails with flowers or skulls on them. Leave it to your little girl to figure out how to adorn her digits.
Why this is great is because this can mean hours of fun for your girls when you need an hour to catch up on your work or an hour curled up with your book and a glass of ice tea.
For the last few days of summer think about having a nail party for your daughter with a few of her friends. Have them all bring their favorite nail colors and give one another mani pedis…out in the yard of course or at least put a towel on the floor wherever they decide to paint their nails if the event will be indoors. See how creative they can be. After the fingers and toes are polished and dry, serve them up some homemade juice popsicles and send them on their way. This activity should help quell the summertime afternoon boredom blues for you and your little one.
