This morning I went to the Huckleberry Cafe in Santa Monica and had a nice quiet breakfast by myself. I ordered poached eggs and grilled vegetables, Fiji water, and a biscuit. While having my breakfast, I read
NurtureShock: New Thinking About Children.
The book pulled me in and I sat at Huckleberry for the next 2 hours reading half of the book.
It was quite an eye opener. I read about how sleep deprivation affects children of all ages, what type of praise should be given, why kids lie, how not talking about race affects our children, why siblings really fight, self control, and so many other topics.
I sat there reading this book and learning things about raising my 5 year old that I never knew.
This book is worth picking up. Get it and read it over the holidays when you have a minute to spare between Thanksgiving meals and holiday shopping.

CONFESSIONS OF A SHOPAHOLIC is out now.
I first encountered this book and the series of books on a trip to Australia and fell in love with the shopaholic heroine Rebecca Bloomwood.
These books are fast reads and great to take along on a trip or for a few hours of escape on the weekend.
Can her career as a financial journalist, a fab flat and a closet full of designer clothes lessen the blow of the dunning letters from credit card companies and banks that have been arriving too quickly to be contained by the drawer in which Rebecca hides them? Although her romantic entanglements tend toward the superficial, there is that wonderful Luke Brandon of Brandon Communications: handsome, intelligent, the 31st-richest bachelor according to Harper’s and actually possessed of a personality that is more substance than style. Too bad that Rebecca blows it whenever their paths cross. Will Rebecca learn to stop shopping before she loses everything worthwhile? When faced with the opportunity to do good for others and impress Luke, will she finally measure up? Find out now go to Amazon to buy the book and catch up before the movie.

Revolutionary Road is a book written in the 1950’s by Richard Yates that does not age. Marriage and life is the same today as it was in the 1950’s and Richard Yates’ prose comes alive on the page. It is truly a book that takes you by force. I read this book while on the beach in Hawaii and I could not put it down.
Knowing the characters were going to be played by Leonardo Dicaprio and Kate Winslet on the screen, I pictured them playing the parts while reading the book and I cannot wait until the movie comes out on December 26th.
