It was one of those beautiful Sunday beach days in Malibu today and my husband, daughter and I decided to go to the beach and spend the day hanging out for some rest and relaxation and family time.
We picked up a few healthy salads, packed our Tuffo waterproof beach blankets, beach essentials like beach chairs, umbrella, coverups, sunscreens, and towels and headed to Malibu for a day at the beach.
It was one of those great days where it was sunny and just warm enough to hang out on the beach without feeling like we were being scorched by the sun. It was cool enough that it was not too crowded too, so it was a perfect beach day for local Los Angeles residents and tourists.
My daughter wore her Flora and Henri turquoise canvas espadrilles and I wore my trusty turquoise Havaiana thong sandals.
My accessories included a great straw hat, my own diamond feather black gold necklace, and a Dogeared rose gold dipped buddha on a leather chain for good luck along with a Dogeared year of the rat Chinese astrological sign necklace in gold.
My bathing suit was a comfortable and flattering strapless Eco Swim black swim suit with a pretty white Eco swim cotton cover up (not shown.)
My daughter wore a pink full piece swimsuit from the Gap, straw hat, and a Dogeared horn necklace and Dogeared bead bracelet.

Moncler Coats for Winter Snow in New York City
SO it is still cold in New York City. It is 32 degrees to be precise today. The groundhog did say that there would be 6 more weeks of winter and his prediction is coming true. It is brisk and spring will probably only come to New York in late May. I remember a year like that where May in New York City felt as cold as February. 52 inches of snow was last reported as the cumulative average in Boston. Guess the green house effect is really taking affect now.
Moncler made some gorgeous down jackets this season and for those of you who live in this east coast winter weather, you will get good use out of a chic warm jacket. At this rate, you should still invest in one of these jackets because there is still lots of time to wear it before the end of the season and next winter you will get to pull it out of your closet right away as soon as you spot the first signs of winter snow or sleet.

Fashion Week Sandwich Recipe Ciabatta and Mortadella
Well if you are like me and missing New York Fashion Week because your child has pneumonia instead of going to Monika Chiang’s show in Lincoln Center this week, you will be at home working for your little CEO making hot tea, doling out antibiotics, making chicken soup and homemade sandwiches.
One of my 8 year old’s favorites is the Ciabatta sandwich I make that is so simple but made with the freshest and best ingredients.
Here is the secret to this gorgeous sandwich that I make for her without fail when she is sick.
The secret – buy fresh bakery ciabatta bread, fresh cut deli mortadella, organic avocados, and Kale microgreens. That is all it takes but because it is all fresh and healthy it looks gorgeous on a white Wedgewood china plate.
Recipe -
1 ciabatta roll
1 avocado
4 slices of thin mortadella
1 handful of kale microgreens
Slice open the bread into a half, toast it, spread avocado on both sides of the bread, add half handfuls of microgreens to each side of the bread on top of the avocado, and add the mortadella. Close the sandwich and enjoy.
This is a simple sandwich that always helps my 8 year old feel better when she is sick.
Cold Winter After School Snacks in Los Angeles
A cold winter day’s after school treat is well deserved when your kid has spent a full day at school learning and then staying after school for violin or going to tennis practice.
Once a week, I take that special time with my daughter to her favorite Japanese restaurant in Los Angeles for an after school snack. Some may say it will spoil their dinner, but I always find that it gives her so much more energy to do her homework when we get home that I would rather give her a great snack and have her eat a small dinner than to have her exhausted and grouchy and too tired to do homework or eat dinner.
Last week after a rather rainy day, B dressed in her fur hooded puffer coat and knee high leather boots ran straight into the car with her violin and backpack and asked if we could go to her favorite restaurant for her 2 favorite appetizers. She loves the hijiki seaweed and the agadashi tofu.
The agadashi tofu is this fabulous fried tofu confection with dried fish curls, green onions, grated fresh ginger that sits in a ponzu broth. The warmth of the aromatic broth with the freshness of the scallions and grated ginger give the dish a harmony of flavors that my 8 year old loves and finds rather comforting on a cold rainy day. Her other favorite is the salty sea water taste of the hijiki seaweed that balances out the agadashi tofu just right. We always share a bowl of the warm soba noodles to go with these 2 dishes and it is just enough to hold her over until dinner time.
Los Angeles is such a melting pot that it is never surprising that my mixed race daughter enjoys all the different ethnic foods that are available to her. One week we may have sushi as an after school snack and another week we may go for Greek or Persian food. It just depends on how we feel that day and of course the temperature. In LA it can be 90 degrees one day and the next day it could be 60 and rainy in the months of January.
The after school snacks are always a nice way to catch up at the end of a busy day and to regroup with your kids. Where do you like to go for after school special snacks or what do you like to make your kids?

Are You Ready for Ski Week in Lake Tahoe in February 2013 ?
I was away during New Year’s in Lake Tahoe and went snowshoeing, skiing and hung out by the Ritz Carlton Lake Tahoe sipping hot toddies by the fire in the living room area while waiting for my daughter to finish ski school and husband to finish snowboarding. Our dog Lexi even went on the trip with us.
We packed our warmest weather puffer jackets, ski jackets, and boots to go on this trip and even while wearing ski pants everywhere daily, it was chilly. It was a cold 1 degree Fahrenheit one day.
The weather did not stop us from enjoying the sunny Lake Tahoe snowy weather. The powder could not have been better for skiing and everyone was happy to run back after ski lessons into the Ritz Carlton Ski lodge to enjoy hot toddies, coffees, and hot chocolate.
Some of the things we packed included Valentino bow rubber boots, Ugg bailey bow boots for apres ski for myself and my daughter, dog coat and booties, Sorel snow boots, and Moncler puffer jackets and kids vests. All those items definitely helped. If we did not have our warm toasty boots and jackets, we would not have been as happy in the snow. Are you ready for Ski Week in February?
Burberry Peplum Puffer Black Jacket For Apres Ski
A great jacket for apres ski is the bigger fashion trend than ever peplum puffer black jacket.
Burberry, Alice + Olivia, St. John, and many other designers have created their versions of the peplum puffer jacket and they have all been gorgeous and must haves. I have picked my favs so you can check out which ones suit your budget and style.
One of my favorites for the price and the look is the Peplum Black Puffer for $32 from Forever 21. It is very cool because it is matte, cinches in the waist in a peplum style, and does not have any additional details that take away from the peplum jacket. It is just a pretty style that you can wear from winter into spring over almost everything. It does run small so size up.
My other 2 favorite peplum puffer jackets include the Burberry puffer jacket that is now on sale for $649 because of its peacoat inspiration. It is very British inspired in style as only Burberry can do and looks chic and will keep you warm.
Of course if you have a little girl, you should get a matching Burberry peplum puffer for her for apres ski. I love the pink bow detail around the waist. Too cute for $295.

Yep – Harper Beckham the daughter of David and Victoria is officially the best dressed child in the world now. Not only is her mom a former Spice Girl singer and a designer, her dad is one of the best looking footballers in the world or soccer players to all the people in the US. Primed for becoming the toast of the fashion world behind Suri Cruise, she was looking very fashionable a week before Christmas while out to dinner.
Harper Beckham was seen wearing a very cool fur hooded wool coat by Roberto Cavalli. Did Roberto Cavalli make one of these hooded coats for adults? If yes, she can have her mom Victoria Beckham get one to match her.
