Versace Purple Crinkled Leather Jacket

Purple is the color of royalty, at least in Japan. And we all intuitively, at least in the backs of our minds, associate purple with the “luxe life.” Think about deep purple violets, indigo jewels and gemstones, and even the sound of the word itself – “purple” – it has a certain elegance, almost pomposity, to it.

Italian designer Versace astutely understands the power of purple. Versace raised its game with the release of a new patent purple crinkled leather and cotton blend jacket. The piece features a notched collar, designer stamp tag (of course) and asymmetric exposed gold zip fastening. The jersey paneling is cotton blend – with delightfully subtle purple stripes near the zipper.

The cotton is somewhat irrelevant to the aesthetic experience. This is a leather jacket. And it’s definitely dark – nearer to a “black purple” than a “purple purple” – so you should be able to mix and match with most elements in your wardrobe. The jacket has a crisp cut that speaks to a certain 2000’s era aesthetic. It’s not hypermodern. But it is “modern enough.” In another words, while you won’t be accused of being overly daring, nor will you be criticized for trying too hard.
